down & out (but just for now)

sad, very sad news people: sk8's got a stress fracture.

after a bunch of medical back and forth, the results came in and the doc confirmed yesterday that there will be no more running for beck for at least 4 weeks or so, which means that she is not going to be able to run san diego. so our little posse is not so much a posse anymore...

sk8, being sk8, of course is really pissed and frustrated (see, running is damn addictive!) but isn't quitting. her plan is to run the fall season, and until then she'll be biking and swimming to keep up her fitness. she entered the nyc lottery, but if she doesn't get in she'll do nike or chicago - depending on which one picks, she might already be my star fundraiser.

sk8, i'm gonna miss you terribly, but we're still gonna hang out *all* the time. damn it.

and then there were two...

just call me captain

it's official - i'll be fundraising captaining for fall. but! before you call me a total lunatic, i'm probably not going to be running. i might be running on my own, and i'll certainly go to practices and what not, but i'll just get to run for fun vs for training. i'll just be helping out with the fundraising aspect of things.

i'm not sure which event i will be working on (fall season is so big that each event will have a fundraising captain). there is a small chance that i will run the san fran 1/2 marathon, but for now i'm just going to play it by ear. with my luck, simply because i want to take a season off, i'll actually get in the ny marathon by the lottery...and then i'll have no choice but to run.

stay tuned...

obsessed much?

i know most of you think i am bordering on obsession when i talk about doing yet another marathon (nyc) with tnt. any thoughts you may or may not have had about me having an addictive personality should thoroughly be dispelled by now.

tempting: the running, going to san fran for the 1/2 marathon, staying involved, having an "activity" that also means a lot to me personally, a big season (over 700 people!)

less-than-tempting: committing to something now that takes place in november, training in disgustingly hot & humid july/august, generally not having a rest since starting this marathon craziness.

what oh what is a gal to do? deadline is tomorrow. i need to think on this...

3 seasons of tnt

so tonight i'm headed over to yet another team in training meeting...this one for fall season.

the crazy continues!

this would be for the season that includes nyc, san fran and chicago. this is the largest with about 700 people. as you know, i've registered for the nyc marathon, so we'll have to see. three marathons in a year? seriously? i’m i should probably just wait to see if my knees make it through this one but you know how i like to bite off more that what most sane people chew.

the thing that scares me the most about that season is the weather. i would rather run in sub-zero than 90+ degrees and humid. the thought alone makes me want to retch. or pass out. or retch and then pass out. the saturday practices would probably be manageable, but wednesday after work when the sun has been beating down on the pavement all day? ick.

and yet – still i go.

glutton for punishment

oh good lord did i really just apply for the NYC marathon lottery?

yes, yes i did.

TNT what have you done...(she says with a grin on her face!)

ah, fresh meat.

when i woke up in a sweat in my overly-steam-heated apartment this morning i suspected that it was warm outside, even if it was rainy. sure enough it was 57 degrees. it's *december 23rd!!!* it is NOT supposed to be almost 60 degrees outside. it made me glad i'll be trying to do something to stop global warming.

i was up late so i took a cab, and was happy to find that charlotte made it to practice because i just didn't feel like running on my own. handsome is still injured and so is drew, which is sad and so frustrating fo the both of them. drew's going to try to run on the 26th and see how he feels, and i need to check in with handsome, but i really hope the acupunture did some good for his knee.

because we ran 20 last weekend, i only had to run 8-10 miles. since i had a train to catch, i opted for the 8. it's so funny tha 8 miles is no longer even daunting in the littlest bit. we've been so well coached, thank goodness.

the run was uneventful - charlotte and i haven't seen each other in a while, so we had a good gab. when i came back in (charlotte was continuing on for another 4 after a water stop because she missed the trails), all the "kids" that are training for the spring season (the season in between arizona and the one i just signed up for) were already out stretching.

as i stretched myself, i almost chucked as i looked them over. they're probably 5 or so weeks into training, if that. less "seasoned" looking, a mish-mash of athletic-wear not necessarily designed for running, looking exhausted and proud. us "vets" heard someone tell his check-out mentor that he ran 5 miles for the first time ever, and we applauded. i thought to myself, as though i had been running for years, "i remember the day..."

we were talking with coach christine, and she excitedly said "so jen! i heard you are going to mentor!" grinning ear-to-ear i said yeah, i'm nuts. she said she thought i was going to be a great mentor, and that she's always amazed when people are brave enough to sign up for their second event when they hadn't completed the first yet. ha. yes...brave, stupid, hopelessly optimistic - whatever you prefer.

cheers from massachusetts, christmas greetings and a run update for you tomorrow.

today's mileage: 8.0
total mileage: 315.5

and she just keeps running

i've unofficially lost my mind and decided to run in the san diego marathon with team in training.

in june.

before you panic, i'm going to be a mentor this time 'round, which means i'll pay my own way instead of fundraising. i could have opted to fundraise with a lower minimum, but i'm going to give you guys a rest until next year.

so i'll be guiding a flock of newbies through the process of training and fundraising, and i'm excited to explore this new speed of mine and see if its sustainable.

training starts feb 15th. who's comin' with me?
